Stepper Motor Driver
8909U
DIN Rail Module
The Hytec 8909U is
a simple and compact DIN-rail mounted stepper motor driver for use with 6 or
8-lead hybrid stepper motors. The unit has the following features:-
·
Four channels of unipolar stepper motor drive at up to 1 amp per phase
·
Single external 12 or 24-volt power supply.
·
Direct connection to the Hytec 8601 Stepper Motor Controller.
·
Simple hook-up to the motor via screw terminals.
·
Limit Switch and Encoder inputs for all four channels
·
Fully opto-isolated on the VME/8601 side
·
Full over-current detection on all outputs with fault reporting to the 8601
·
Direct drive of 12 or 24-volt motors or use with external series resistors.
Each channel has three inputs coming from the 8601; these are step,
direction and auxiliary. The auxiliary signal may be used to control the
power to the motor if desired.
Each channel also sends back four status signals to the 8601; these are
positive and negative travel limit switch signals; a home limit signal and a
fault signal. The fault signal is asserted if either of the output current
sense signals for the channel indicate a fault. This fault detection results
in the motor power being shut off for a pre-determined time (nominally 100
milliseconds) after which power is re-applied to gauge if the fault has been
removed.
In addition, the unit contains logic for accepting single-ended TTL signals
from quadrature encoders giving phase A and phase B signals. 5-volt power
for this type of encoder is provided at the screw terminal interface.
Hytec offers companion DC power supplies in DIN-rail mounting format and 12
or 24-volt output versions with either 5 or 10 amp outputs. The 5 amp
version would be used when 0.5 amp motors are being driven, while the 10 amp
version would be needed if driving at 1 amp per phase. Hytec can also offer
suitable series resistor assemblies, for example, two 50-watt 22 ohm
resistors mounted on an aluminium plate for each motor, suitable for 24-volt
1 amp operation.
